I just bought this car few weeks ago and was wondering how to clean the dashboard as well as the area located behind the backseat.
I think both are vinyl but not sure. Any comments. |

My dash is vinyl ('87 Targa) and my seats are all leather.
Area located behind the back seat? Speaker tray? If so, that's vinyl... -Chris

Most of the 3.2L cars were what was called "Partial leather" which was leather inserts in the front seats and could have been leather in 1 or 2 more places. The dashes are vinyl, but I believe full leather was an option.

You might check the options list sticker inside the front hood as to whether the interior was vinyl, partial leather or full leather. I'm almost positive that the dash is vinyl (think I remember that Porsche discontinued leather dashes after so many warped/cracked).
The rear shelf is likely leather if you have a full leather interior. Easy way to check is to remove the rear shelf and turn it over - you can see whether the material is vinyl or leather. I've also read that a way to test is to use a pin, heated by a match. If material melts, its vinyl, if it burns its leather. Haven't tried it, but it makes sense to me.

If you have partial leather like most of us, then use Vinylex on the dash and door panels and back seats. It preserves and has sunscreen. Works great and also good on Targa tops. Just don't use armor all...it'll eventually ruin your vinyl. (Vinylex works good on exterior rubber too...like your side trim, front smile, and bumperettes.
On the front seat faces, I use Lexol leather preservative. There's another brand of leather stuff that is supposed to be even better tho, but i don't recall the name. And don't put Vinylex on your steering wheel if you plan to do any steering. I still don't know what to use on the steering wheel...even Lexol results in a slippery gooey mess.
