Red face has this ever happened to you?

I took my 79 SC for its first spin in several weeks last night.

As I was happily tooling down a dark 2 lane highway, I glanced to my right and saw bright orange BURNING embers shoot out of the defroster, landing right on the passenger seat!

Needles to say, it startled the sh** out of me. No visible external smoke/fire. I was able to make it home without incident (only 1 mile away), but I'm afraid to take it out again.

Only idea I have is that it may be chunks of decomposed hoses which hook up to the blower.

Any other ideas or advice on how to proceed are appreciated.

Rich

was there a smell associated with it/ electrical fire has a distinct odor. I didn't see any sparks with mine but the blower motor did burn out and needed replacing.

Maybe some mice took up residence inside your heat exchangers. Did they smell like an overdone steak?

Yes, this happened to me several years ago in a SC. It was the the air supply hose to the heat exchanger coming apart. Change the duct and you are cured.

I can honestly say that has never happened to me. If you have fire and brimstone shooting at you, there are some real issues involved here.
