Porsche Crest Long term storage of leather seats

I received my sport seats today and will be spending the next couple weeks cleaning and dyeing them. After thoroughly cleaning and treating my original seats, I plan to just store them in the attic (extremes of hot and cold).

Does anyone have experience in the best way to cover them (tight plastic, loose plastic, box) or what? Also, forgive my ignorance but do you put moth balls in with them. I ask this not even knowing if moths attack leather or not.

They're kind of expensive so I'd find a more neutral environment than the attic you speak of. I'd make sure they had leather dressing on them before storage. To my knowledge moths don't like leather, but thread and leather can dry out and rot. How about a cool dry place?

The extremes in temperature will crack the leather and ruin the seats. You need to find a place that has mild temps and steady humidity, not too dry or too damp. I've seen leather develop mold when stored in hot, damp areas, not pretty!!

Good advice.

I do have a basement but currently no space. Seems like every project I do leads to two more. I think I can do some reorganizing in my basement and make them fit. I'll store them without the moth balls. I would probably never get that smell out.

Thanks for the input.

By the way, here are the replacement seats that arrived today. I've got them soaking in rejuvenator oil after a good cleaning. They were in great shape and look good after cleaning; much better than I expected from used seats. Sort of a shame to dye them but my interior is cork so they need to change.
Now I've got to figure out how to remove some of the seat hardware and dye down between the deep cushions.

No affiliation, not yet, anyway. I do love their products though. I used their repair and dye.

Their website has something to be desired, but they have been starting to reply to emails more and more.

Good luck.

That's who I use. The bottle beside the seat is their Rejuvenator Oil. I've not had a problem with emails. George was kind enough to respond to two of my emails this week at like 10:30 at night his time. A very helpful individual with a good product. Also no affiliation.

I suspect George would have the best advice regarding storage then. What did he say?

This was not one of the questions I asked George in my emails. The questions I asked pertained to the procedure for removing the existing brown dye and applying the cork color.
