Noel, happy to hear that.

Adam,
I'm at Palm Beach Gardens, and have had my 1983 SC for 23 years. I'm so close we could hook up and check things out to remove all doubts you might have about yours. 561.627.9068 Cheers..............Andras |
That sounds like a great idea. We can hook up, talk shop, and I'll buy you lunch! I'll order the plumbing first (heater hoses), and then we can get together once it arrives.
Cheers, Adam |
I don't need a heater here on the CA coast, so I have Bursch headers, Webers, and no hoses at all in the engine compartment. Where the holes in the tin are located for the hoses, I fabricated new tin pieces with no hole. The engine compartment looks very clean and uncluttered, what with no CIS or air conditioning. It's very nice that way. I wish I had a photo to post. I'll put that on my list of things to do.

you can remove then , but you need the air block off plates so the cooling air doesn't exit in the holes where the hoses used to be
no problem for your heat exchangers , then won't overheat... you could swap them for headers, or you could cut away the sheetmetal if they are stainless steel... and convert them to headers that way |
I immediately got rid of all the extra stuff in my SC. Below are some pics of my "temporary" heat setup using parts from the original system and duct tape of course :) You can't see it, but the driver side fan duct is supplying both HE air. I had only the left side working and plugged the right. A couple humid days and no defrost to the passenger side of the window had me changin it to this setup. I am curious if the car would run hotter if setup with the typical backdating solution of using 2 outlets from the fan as opposed to my one. More air through the exchangers should mean less air cooling the engine? Anyway, I might connect the passenger side exchanger underneath the engine compartment and fabricate better fitting parts and eliminate the duct tape on my ducts!

Oooohhh....I like that solution, Andras. That's incredibly neat!
|
So Adam, when will we get together to show you in person? How's this Saturday morning, after I wash the Audi?
|
Adam- Living in Florida you should definetly go with the backdate like Andras. Just hold on to the stuff you remove in case you do sell someday to give the new owner the option. I did the same to mine as many of us have and I still have great heat here in Va in the winter, as long as you stay in 2nd gear all the way to work.
Congats on the new SC and sounds like you and Andras will get together and tackle a few projects. Have fun ... |
I went with the backdated heat as above, but instead of using the OEM tubing, I used SCAT hose from aircraftspruce.com. I got frustrated trying to work with that paper/foil OEM hose and it kept ripping on me. Probably because I had the wrong size in the first place. Anyway, the SCAT is a fabric hose and comes in red or black:

Andras: I just bounced it off the boss/wife via email...I'll let you know when I hear back. Sounds good to me, though. I'd love to look at yours closely prior to ordering parts. Would you want to meet at your place or mine? Thanks again, Andras.
Cheers, Adam |
