More early 911 weights--- 901 tranny Alum vs. Mag....plus LSD weights
Hi Guys-
I thought you would like to know more info on weights of 901 trannys. My father and I are in the process of swapping out our aluminum 901's to Mag 901's so we can install the Guard 80% LSD. Allan at Aase weighed the shells and parts and this is what he came up with: 30.36 pounds aluminum case empty 22.41 pounds mag case empty 17.20 pounds limited slip differential (Guard 80% unit) 9.94 pounds stock differential 2.12 pounds stock intermediate plate 4.06 pounds aluminum billet intermediate plate More weight info for you rennlight guys

Chad that mag case unit your using is not really a 901 . Its a type 911 and was used for 70-71 only . I recall you were searching for a type 901 unit in magnesium . As far as I know there is no such thig as a 65-69 magnesium case . As far as the type 911 goes it is exactly the same aside from the case and the type of clutch is requires . It also has a better gear spread for more powerful engines also a higher(highest) 5th gear of all the 65-71 trannies . Great data btw . Thanks for sharing .

I was keeping it simple. I just stated "901" because thats what everyone is familiar with. There is a 1969 mag 901/911. My dad's project car was a 69 T and it had a mag 901/911 in it. He is throwing his LSD in it right now. Thats why I was looking for the parts for mine. One thing that is unique about a 1969 mag tranny is bowden tube size on the side cover. Its different for 70/71 models. Not to mention it makes it very easy to bolt everything right up with the Guard LSD.

BTW, AFAIK, that is not an official designation - but it's good to keep things neatly sorted. Also, I think there were some other differences between the 901 and '911' - search Grady's posts if interested...
Thanks for the wt. data!
