What size tires 72 Carrera RS clone 16x7&8
 

What size track tires should I purhcase.

I have a 72 Carrera RS clone w 16 x 7 & 8 fuchs.

Usually it's 225/245. You may have rubbing issues in the front, in which case you go to 205's or roll the lips of your fenders. Camber settings will have an effect on tire fit, too.

225/245 50s or 45s ?

951 offset wheels.

225/50 in the front 245/45 in the rear.

Some use a 225/45 in the front to help avoid rubbing, or go to the narrower 205/55. You will need negative camber and rolled fender lips to make the 225's work in the front

225/50/16 front ??
245/45/16 rear???

245/45/16's in the rear, that's the easy part.

For the front, what tire do you plan to buy? A quick check on tirerack shows no "competition" rubber available in 225/45/16, so you may be stuck with either 205/55/16 or 225/50/16.

They are close in diameter, the 225/50 is 20mm wider making more effort required to fit. IMO, it's worth it, 245's in the rear and 205's in the front will understeer.

If you are looking for something to just bolt on get the 205/55. If you have 1.5 degrees of negative camber and no fender lips get the 225/50 mounted and check the clearance around the fender.

Sorry there's no easy answer. I used 7's with 205/55's on my SC with stock alignment. They fit but it was close. I now use 951 8's in the front with 225/50 and it's also close but lips are rolled. Negative camber is 1.7 degrees which required removal of my upper strut covers.

Who is doing your mounting? Any chance you could take the car to a shop familiar with local PCA club racers? They'll be familiar with stuffing 225/50's in the front.

One last option...Get 205/55/16's for the front and 225/50/16's for the rear. No clearance issues and the car will be balanced.

A little smaller sidewall and smaller diameter height tire would be a 215/50 - 16. Kuhmo Ecstas are available... not sure what else.

I agree that the 245/46 x16 rear is a no brainer, for the front I would look at the actual physical size of the brand of tire that you want to use, not all 225/50 x16 will measurre the same.

f/g cannot be rolled but it can be trimmed to give extra clearance. The problem is that it is far more important than w/ steel to leave a fairly substantial lip to prevent the propagation of cracks.

Just tried on Hoosier RS03s @ Bobby Archers in Ft worth.

225/50/16 Front way too tall and wide in the front, going to try 205/45/16 Front

245/45/16 Rears fit perfect, and could probably be a little wider.

I have 45 series all around...car is lower than euro height and there is no rubbing issues...

How timely, I just got home with Kuhmo 215/50 - 16s on my front 7s'

So I haven't tried high-speed turns or bumps in a turn yet.

They look good. :D

I am lowered about 3/8" on the drivers side front from 25 1/2" I will have to check where it is now. I also have the inner fender lip rolled already.
