911 engine number?
I am CORNfused and need some advice. I have rebuilt cars most of my life, but this is my first Porsche project car. I notice on my '75 911S that the fan is an 11 blade affair, and I thought that 2.7 litre engines had 7 blades?
I think that this was a common upgrade due to overheating, but I just wanted to get you guys' opinion. Then after poking around more I notice on the right side of the fan houseing is a gold sticker that states that this vehicle conforms to 1977 emission standards. I am pretty sure it is a '75, as the title says so, and so far all the parts I have purchased for a 75 S have fit fine. Lastly, I am wondering if anyone can tell me how I can find the engine number to see, once and for all if this is a 2.7 or some transplanted engine. Once I find the engine number, how can I decode it? Thanks, all! |
The engine serial number should be on the fan upright to the right as you face the motor. The Type number will be on the horizontal surface behind it (righthand arrow in attached photo.)
