3.0 into 912?
California changed its smog rules reciently and my 1979sc now has to be smagged every 2 years for the rest of my life. So, I'm starting to look at different options.
Can my 3.0 engine go into a 69 912? How difficult is this, what do I have to do or is it just so much trouble its not worth it. I saw a 912 that I kinda like but need some advice. |
My 66 912 has a 3.0 in it. The PO installed a 2.0E with carbs, I know it took modifications to do it but I'm not sure what all they entailed. I know you need 911 rear engine mounts and a 911 oil tank, cooler and lines. I removed the 2.0 and intalled the 3.0 with MSD ignition and carbs for simplicity. My car runs the 70-71 911 (901 with late type clutch) trans and it's a total blast. With fiberglass fenders and bumpers it weighs around 2000 with me in it, total go-cart.

Just about everything short of the VIN will switch over. And that is probably what you'll want to do :) Drivetrain, spindles, sway bars, torsion bars, shifter, and any aesthetic items or comfort.

My 66 911 was rusted so I bought a 912 shell and put the runnung gear in. Then I got a 82 wrecked SC and put the suspension in it. Then i put in a hot 2.7 and the car is real cool. I stripped the motor mount sheet metal off the 911 and just welded it in the corner. No brainer. cot a hole and in goes the oil tank.

Thanks, you guys are the best. I'll see if the 912 is still available.
