Engine or Transmission Trouble? Help
 

My mom and I went for a a 20 mile drive, and as we were coming home, I revved the car up to 4500 RPM in first gear,pushed it into second, and from 2,000 RPM and up, there is a screeching sound. I cannot tell where it is, but in first, second, and third gear, if I get it past 2,000 RPM, there is that screeching sound. When we got home, I revved the car in nuetral, and there is no screeching at all. Only when the car is in gear. The engine looks fine, but there seems to be a defect in either the engine or transmission somewhere.

Note: The 911 has a 915 transmission and a 1979 3.0 enigne.

edit: I did not feel anything wrong when I drove the car. On the drive, I used a lot of backpressure on the engine when coming down the hills.

Hard to say but it could be a loose fan belt or perhaps a worn clutch release bearing?

Relax. That noise is almost certainly not anything related to internal engine or tranny parts. Screeching is almost always a drive belt. In this case, it would be either your main fan belt, or your A/C belt. See which one is loosest, tighten it a little and the screech will probably not return. If your A/C was not on during the screeching, then it's probably your main fan belt.

Thanks! That is good to know. I am a bit more relieved. I will check th fan belt. There is no AC in the car either.
