Who's Going to Scottsdale Auction?
I'm thinking about heading to Scottsdale for the Barrett-Jackson auction. Anybody going? January 26-30.

What?!?!

I hereby Double-Dog-Dare you to come out here for the auction!! I'll meet you up there and we'll have a few 'pops' as well. Maybe even get my car up there too. Some of us local Pelicaneers were talking of heading to the Pavillions on that Saturday afternoon. It's 15min from the auction site and there are some amazing rides that show up on a weeky basis.

Don - what time are you thinking about heading to the Pavillions? I remember I went year before during BJ and the lot was totally full. I may get there very early and just stay all day.

Went last year, kind of mind boggling in a depressing sort of way. I guess I like seeing cars run, not sold all lonesome and forlorn on the block like some discard. Kinda tired of the "enthusiasts" that selling/"big" money brings out. Reminds me of a horse auction, which has many of the same elements (the pig in a poke, the looks good but blows up on ya halfway home, the looks perfect for my yard display, the I paid big bucks so I must be a real horseman, the no foot no horse, the hopeful person that will take great care of what he purchases, the person who has the bucks but soon lets his purchase idle into non use and neglect, the guy with a big rig with his farm name on it, gucci shoes, a personal bidder and rolex presidentrial on his little wee wrist etc.). Whew, I didnt realize how much the BJ crowd reminds me of the horse auction business. I guess I need a vacation! Maybe hanging out at the pavillions with you guys is the answer! Keep me posted. I can show off my newly redone seats (no more toasted old sheepskins! Hurray!!)

If this is the type of cars that get top dollar,
I have only watched BJ on Speed Channel but I am sure that there are more then a few "pigs in poke" as Bruce puts it there. Lot Whatever (nothing against the 914 crowd but come on)

A couple of years ago somebody had an extra ticket and offered it to me, but my wife was working. This year she's off that weekend... hint, hint. It's interesting that the price is the same on Wednesday and Sunday. I may have to run up there Sunday just to see it all in person.

I was thinking of going, but the auction is mostly about hot rods and muscle cars, which aren't my thing. Few Porsches, fewer Rollers and Bentleys mean the show isn't for me.

Curt, sounds good. Did you get squared away on a room? Sorry I couldn't have been more help. Been getting hammered at work/home.

Yup, all set on the room. Just need to rent a car - how much are silver 72 coupes going for per day out there, Don?

Jeez, I forgot all about Pomona. I think we need a new Pomona thread, just for old times sake.

I plan to be at the Pavillions on Saturday and Barrett Jackson on Sunday morning early.
Don, what are your plans for the weekend?

Will be at BJ on Saturday, possibly half of the day on Thursday.
Several very nice Porsche's there and as usual the normal vendors that make it really worth the trip. JoeA

The current forecast is showing "some showers" for Saturday. My car probably hasn't been rained on in 15 years so it'll stay home if that's the case.

Lee,
You are so conservative with your cars that if there is a chance of dust it would stay in the garage! ![]() Right now its looking like lots better weather than last year, when it rained on the weekend. JoeA
