Red face stupid people

so I needed to get some new felts in Scruffy's windows. Being that I am in a new job and busy I took the car to a local trim shop. I explained to them how to do the job. I gave them the correct felts and rubber trim, etc. I even removed the door panels to make it easy.

here we go right...

so I get the car back later in the day and I am driving on the highway and I notice a rattle I had not had before. Later in the garage I examined the doors more closely and I found that the wingwindow bolts had been replaces with non-metric bolts! These fellas used the wrong hardware to reinstall the wingwindows!

At this point I am totally pissed. Not wanting to mess with these guys again I went to the ususal places in search of new hardware e.g. Autozone, Napa, etc.

I have not found what I need so here is my question, would this kit from our host give me what I need? (plus some spares for the future)

I will also need a tap so I can clean the threads up.

Thanks

James

I would still tell them of your experience and what your expectations were.....

I already did. they came recommended! needless to say, next time I'll just wait until I have time. Getting the air noise as low as possible is going to be a trick anyway. Even in Scrappy it was a problem. now I have an open top car so replacement of all this hardware won't be a bad thing I don't think.

James, I don't think that kit will work. From what I remember the mountnig bolts on the window frames are M4 and M5. The kit you posted starts at M6 and goes bigger.

If this shop made the holes bigger by placing std bolts instead of metric you may have to drill and tap for a larger size. I can only imagine that they are stripped out too. I would make them pay for new window frames. The good news here is the targa (cab) window frames are chrome plated brass(?). you should be able to tap/thread easily.

yeah, I think that taping is the first route I want to go. getting people to pay for stuff is a big pain so we'll see about that one. I just want it fixed. this weekend, assuming I can get the right bolts, I will fix it. I have had those wingwindows out so many times (trying to get them to seal to the top well) I can do it in my sleep. I should have done this job myself too. Oh well

I've been in this situation myself several times. Porsche specialists are few and far between in most parts of the country. It's easy to assume that some local shop will be capable of doing relatively simple repairs. But they always seem to figure out a way to screw the job up.

When I converted my interior, I took the pre-cut leather rear seat material to a local shop who is highly regarded in this area .... but mainly for hot rods. Sure enough, they screwed it up and had to re-do it under my direction.

Many years ago, I took my 73 911 to a local Precision Tune. I didn't have time to wait for my normal mechanic. Just wanted to install new plugs, set the timing, etc. And to be honest, all their hi-tech electronic diagnostics was pretty impressive back in 1984. Came back to pickup the car and found all of their mechanics huddled around the back of my car Couldn't get it started and they were muttering something about reverse polarity messing with their machines. They finally got it running, albiet on 4 cylinders. I drove it home, phoned my regular mechanic and he told me to set the points by eyeball. I did that and the car ran perfectly.

There's a moral to this story somewhere .....

Talking

You could have stopped at..........Precision Tune. Bet the farm at the outcome!!.

Actually, a good game /quiz here would be to take real life scenario like that and have us guess at what happened (next)
