Thanks for all of the comments on the thread - I have not had that chance to sit down and read them carefully yet. A few people suggested that I move the thread and read it offline, and then respond later. I will do that later on tonite and respond here.
Thanks again! -Wayne

What gives? I wrote a reply, went to submit, and got locked out. Also the replies to this post are missing. First the original post, now this one?

That's absolutely the last time that I contribute to a thread that I know is going to get removed......, "fool me once" and all that.

Wayne: Can't you re-post the thread, but close it out so nobody else can reply to it? That way, those posting on the board can still read it and see what you're up against.
Just a thought...

It was up to 10 pages last I saw. Wayne probably just wants to read the responses so he can move forward and ask some new questions and run some ideas by us.

It's hidden in the same place as the Story of the Pelican.

Wayne was saying that sales were down and that increased traffic on the BBS was costing Pelican more money.

Whatever, best regards to you Wayne. I hope things turn around soon, as I'm sure they will - they always do.

Just to take this in a completely different direction, how did they come up with pelican for a name? I did a search, found nothing.
Prolly a good reason but if I were a newbie and I thought of parts for Porsches, a large ocean going bird is not the image I would come up with. Not meant as critisism, just curious. |

Sam- as Randy Web said a few posts above; it's in the hidden forum that only Wayne can read. No really... I don't Wayne has ever told the story. Whenever someone asks, Wayne always says he will post it later, he's too busy, etc. The suspense is killing me!

Operate the BBS on a cost recovery basis (including tech support so you can sleep through the night!). Ask for a voluntary contribution and recognize those donors in their user profile. It will probably "shame" others into doing likewise.
As with any "by donation" effort recognition is what most people are after (witness the number of buildings donated by big shots bearing their names for example). Many campaigns have donors recognized at different levels. For example: $500 part order member $1000 part order member $2000 part order member etc. These people could be recognized by a Fuch avatar under their name. More purchases more avatars. Number of posts has been very helpful. Support level for your business as demonstrated by a particular member might inspire loyalty in others. Many people cite cost as their major consideration in purchasing. Don't charge a fee, people will find a no cost alternative. Get WorldPac to sponsor the site's actual cost - they are after all an indirect beneficiary of this site. As others have noted, the ad copy for Pelican needs help. The site is clearly the best ad for itself. Getting traffic to it is key. I haven't seen too many links to this site from others. Once a P-car enthusiast finds this site I doubt they go elsewhere. This is a great site with a generous host. I wish you all the best. Long Live Pelican! Jorian
