Is the original trunk carpet glued to the car or is it just in there with only the snaps attached?

I've never seen glue on the side or center sections of carpet only snaps.

You coulldn't have glue in there. It covers spare tire, fuse box, battery, etc. Things that need to be accessible from time to time.
