Question G50 tranny experts needed!

My G50, from a 1987 Carrera leaks oil from the shifter rod seal. I replaced the seal twice, but it still leaks. The shifter rod itself does not have any play, so i can't understand why this should happen. Anyone?

The second problem is gear whine. It sounds like gear whine, anyway. The sound comes when I accelerate hard, or decelerate hard. There is a point in etween that there is no noise. I suspected the diff, but everything there appears to be fine. My next guess would be mainshaft bearings, maybe worn due to the couple of times the oil level was low due to the shift-rod oil leak. Anyone know how to diagnose the problem prior to taking the tranny apart?

Thanks guys!

Are you using the updated throw out bearing guide shaft?

Cheers, James

Hi James, yes I am. Could the old style setup cause such a problem?
Thanks
