3rd Gear Grinding, Brake band??
Installed new Synchronizer rings on all gears, all is well except only 3rd still grinds a tad, could worn or weak brake bands cause this? something is not letting 3rd gear spin up to speed prior to the shifting sleeve engaging?

Yes (worn - coating gone) or the 3/4 shifting sleeve is worn also. Did you reuse the old 3/4 shifting sleeve? Another possibility is that the 3/4 shift fork is out of position and is forcing the shifting (operating) sleeve onto the synchro ring too soon. Things may (long shot) improve if the synchro ring and operating sleeve wear in together for a while. Jim

replacing the 1-2 and 3-4 shift sleeves and all the brake bands is good practice, as they are very important for proper shifting. the 5-rev sleeve is often still in good shape, but not always.
