Muffler Manufacturers

I have a 1982 911SC Targa with 3.0 Engine. Want to do dual-in dual-out from SSI Heat Exchangers. Does anyone have a list or know of a list of all the manufacturers out there and the key reason for choosing each?

Thanks!!

you might do a search on muffler and mb911. There is a good series of posts related to this topic - plenty of reading. I bought one from mb911 and am pleased with the results. He hand makes a variety at a more reasonable price than the larger manufacturers.

I agree w/Doug. I also got a muffler from MB911 (Ben) and am very pleased w/it...nice sound, and half the price of other makes. Here is a pic just after the install of SSI's and Ben's muffler.

i have a Triad muffler on my 3.0.... i went the same route as you except i bought some early style heat exchangers. I really like my Triad...but it can be a little 'drony' at 2500rpm. Of course when i bought my Triad...Ben's was not available. Im sure that either one will do you right, its the SSIs that really uncork the exhaust, a cool muffler is just icing on the cake. Nothing wrong with supporting a fellow pelicanite. I say, give Ben's a shot. If you dont like the sound, im sure someone here will buy it off you for ~about~ what you paid for it. From what ive read you wont be disapointed.

There's a lot of good choices out there, most of which are available from our host.

The only ones I would steer totally away from are B&B and Borla. IMHO they are overpriced, and don't stand behind their product like most of the others will.

I agree w/ Doug and KCPSG. I have Ben's (mb911) dual in\out muffleron my 78SC. Fit was great, sound is wonderful. Cannot beat the price.

Granted mine will be a track car.

If you need any info let me know.

FWIW Borla no longer makes mufflers for older 911s. I have a dual in dual out on mine and I love it.

I have a MB911 2 in 2 out muffler and love it,excellent construction very light weight and a great sound. Also Ben can alter the sound if you're not happy with it(louder or quieter) not many vendors will do that.

I had a dual-in/dual-out Dansk stainless with 84mm outlets bolted up to SSI's. I took it off b/c it sounded like crap. Sounded great at idle and light acceleration, but when you got on the gas it gave out this metallic vibration sound which was totally unnatural and awful.

I went to a stock dual in/single out until I decide it's time to go for something more aggressive.
