Hot Wire under dash... Firehazard?

Ok...i dont have a pic, but as i was driving last night and for some odd reason i stuck my hand up under the dash just to the right of the light switch and noticed that there was one wire that was extremely hot to the touch. Im gonna take a picture of it an post it later...

anyway, the wire led to a plastic connector of sorts and it was so hot that i couldnt keep my hands on it for very long without some serious discomfort. I was wondering if this is a normal thing? Somehow i doubt it...

ill post a pic tonight or tomorrow...

I have the same problem if we are talking about the same (yellow with plastic connector) wire. It is on the left side of the dash near the emergency signal. I think the heating line or the line to the vent is letting excess heat escape under the dash and keeping it extremely hot. I have not had any problems (knock on wood) electrically in 2 years of ownership.

Hot wires....and Porsche's characteristic lack of fuses.....keeps me worried ( electrically speaking)....

Find out what this is, and remedy it....even if not "factory original" ....

Have you installed relays for the headlights yet?

Look below your fuse box in the front. They are usually a couple of small black boxes hanging near the front of the fuse block.

If you don't see them, do a search on SUCRO. They are a good idea in any case.

Do you have higher than stock wattage bulbs in the headlights?

All power to the headlights pass through that wire and through the turn signal stalk. The heat represents resistance, which also means the headlights are not getting full voltage.

Installing relays for the headlights uses the original switching wiring for signal voltage and runs power to the headlights directly from the fuses through the relays. Not only will you save having to replace your stalk, you will have brighter headlights.

There is lots previously written on installing relays.

Oh my how quickly the conversation turns south!

Ok...looks like the SUCRO kit is the way to go. Here are some links i dug up that led me to a place to purchase.

H4 relay kits - need feedback
