Targa Top tension bands repair?

I'm restoring my targa top and when I took the old material off, the tension bands that hold the metal top sections aligned broke (tore all the way though) in a few places. This is a very thick cloth material that is rivited onto the top. Is there any simple way to repair this?

Not very simple, I think. I have bought the material but eventually left the work to an expert...
But I think you can use any solid fabric as bands, it does not need to be the original rubber coated one.

buy more material and some rivets. I think back when Thom Fitzpatrick's car was still a targa he did a complete rebuild (it might have been someone else, it's been a while) Whoever it was had a website with a complete walkthrough.

I had the same problem on mine. Replaced the vinyl top in the past month or so.

I bought a 1x1 yard peice of material normally used for boat tarps/covers from a local store. I covered the entire top vice cutting a peice to cover the ends/attach to the slats. I used this as my first layer instead of going with the normal burlap like stuff. Glued and riveted it to the slats.



Came out very nice. Not too difficult.

I used canvas for my inner layer. It's still running around on some Pelicanite's car.
