calling all 78 SC owners

Has anyone upgraded their 78 SC engine fan (223 mm) to the slightly bigger 245 mm fan My main question here is if the bigger housing will fit in the bed well, on top of the engine case. I have looked into replacing my chipped fan and I was wondering if it would run that much cooler with the bigger one. OR, should I just get the new 223 mm fan and go on.

Any thoughts or criticisms?

Thanks, - Norm

From what I understand it doesn't change the cooling in any significant way, I think the smaller fan spins faster than the larger one...but someone with more experience might want to chime in.

I actually think our fans move more air than the newer ones so unless there is a huge cost difference I would stick with what you have.

If your car has ever had a/c (double pulley on crank) make sure the pulley diameters on the crank and fan are correct. I put a/c on my 78, had got the wrong crank pulley and did have elevated temperatures. I got the right puley and things are fine now.

Nope, Mine never had it, never will. (a/c) I 'm inclined to take your advice and stay with my original size. After all there is nothing wrong with my housing and strap.

Thanks guys.
