Assuming this is for your 1970, it would be subject only to the basic safety check (lights, wipers, horn, etc) and a visual check of emission equipment ( I believe only PCV for 1970). Any inspection station can perform this test, but they will drive the car - something you might be concerned about at the "Pit Stop".

You should be able to go anywhere. Here in houston the two places that I've been they drive the car around the building and usually do a little brake check in the back.

There are three ways to register.

ONe is like a normal car. inspection and registration required as normal. You should not have to worry about emissions.

SEcond, you can register yours as a classic using a 1970 plate. This will be the same as option #1 but have a 1970 plate. Same inspection required. This is how my targa is registered.

Third, you can register as an antique. This will require a 1970 plate or buy the TX antique/classic plate. Cost is $50 but it is good until 2008. No inspection required. One caveat, you are supposed to only drive for club events and parades. My ST replica is registered this way. It usually only goes to the track or local drives. All club related. (wink)

A good place to find the early plates are at the many muscle car swapmeets in TX or ebay. Jsut find a clean one and take it with you when you register the car. a 1970 plate should be black with silver (?) lettering.

the inspection on my targa was a trip around the block, look for seat belts, check lights, wipers, tire wear and brake fluid level.

Do you need both plates from 1970 or will just one work?

Yu will need both plates. If the car was not originally equipted with a front plate mount I don't think you have to mount it if its an atique vehicle. I carry mine in the car under the pass. floor carpet. Of course, I could just be asking for a ticket.

You'll also need to get a "green sheet" when you get it inspected. This just confirms the VIN #.
