renting 911's/new job
Life is good. I've just accepted a new design job that will include travel to Sweeden, Italy, and Germany (hot dog!) Has anyone got experience renting Porsches or other performance cars in Europe?

Back in 1997, I rented a 993 from Avis in Germany. It was great fun! I remember signing a contract stating that I would not take the car outside of Germany or Austria.
If I recall correctly, for the equivalent of about $175, I had the car for a day and 500km.

Four days after 9/11 me and a friend rented a 996 coupe from Avis at the Frankfurt airport for a week. We got 1000 free KM for $1750 for the week and ended up paying an additional $1000 in mileage charges ($1 per KM). It was an absolute blast and worth every penny. The car was an anthricite 996 coupe with sport suspension and three piece wheels. We did the Nurburgring, Hockenheim, visited the Porsche factory and then blew a tire at 165MPH on the A1 Autobahn from Garmisch to Munich. I just pulled the car over to the side and changed to the spare. We were on our way within a half hour after explaining to the German police what happened (I guess they need to file reports on all activity on the Autobahn). Our trip to the Porsche Zentrum dealership across from the factory was a necessity as we burned up the rear brakes on the Nurburgring (we kept PSM on all the time, you could feel it working at times). I believe Avis still rents Porsches, when we dropped the car off we saw a 996 Turbo in one of their parking slots so apparently you could rent those as well although I don't know what that would run you.
