Avatar: how do you create and load one?

How do you create your own avatar? How about those animated ones? Some of those are well done!

Any image can be used as an avatar as long as the pixel dimensions do not exceed 50x50. There are a number of software programs that can be used to alter / create an image file of this size... Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, are two popular examples. There is a freeware program that many Pelicans use, unfortunately I can't remember the name (do a search and I'm sure you will find it). The files can be written as jpeg, bitmap or gif format (there may be others).

The animated avatars are animated gif files. In essence, an aimated GIF file contains a collection of images that are sequenced together, much like fanning a deck of cards. There are a number of freeware programs available off the net to create these. I use Unlead GIF Animator 5.

Your personal avatar can be uploaded to Pelican via 'user cp' / 'edit options'... have fun

Yours is, that's for sure. I've never used the "stop" button more in my life!

Ha...I thought I was the only one who knew that trick. Whats your average? I'm about 1 in 50

Hendog 02-03-2005 01:00 PM

Hey Derek thanks for the info. Hopefully I can come up with something creative. I doubt people will be using the stop button on mine though!!haha. BTW, I never knew you could do that...and I got it on the 2nd try.

Kevin. Your last post almost caused me to do a "spit-take." Was that intentional, or just a funny coincidence? :D

ZOA NOM 02-03-2005 01:59 PM

I can see my work here is done. :)

Come down off of the curb and into the gutter with the rest of us (or me at least). Given Zoanas' avatar, I thought your post had a vague resemblance to a breast. (The Porsche content of this post is that Kevin's picture shows Pelican Parts in the address line of the browser window.)

Dan Mc Intyre 02-03-2005 02:38 PM

Is there a start button or are we stuck with Refresh?

scottb 02-03-2005 02:39 PM

Refresh

KevinP73 02-03-2005 02:44 PM

Scott...that looked like a breast?? I could understand your confusion if you were married but a single guy like yourself!! Maybe your puttin in too many hours at the office. I'd post a real pic of a breast but I think that would get the attention of Z-man and then I'd really be in hot water here.

scottb 02-03-2005 02:49 PM

Just usin' my imagination, ol' friend. ;)

Drago 02-03-2005 03:18 PM

Oh great...like I needed to waste another 15 minutes of company time with that!!!;)
