Need some advice & info about 1999 - 2001 911 Cabs

I am finally getting close to being able to afford a little bit of a newer 911. I am ready to trade the SC in for a new 911, well new to me anyway. I was thinking a 1999 - 2001 cab or coupe. I am leaning toward the convertible.

What is the performance on these cars? 0-60, top speed, quarter, etc...

What about the mechanicals? I was thinking about finding one that has 30K miles or less.

What about the convertibles, I have never had one and I think I would like one. What about that darn back window, can you replace the plastic if it starts looking bad? What about care for the top?

What options should I be looking for?

Thanks for your inputs.

My buddy has a 99 or 2000 996 cab. The motor is really great, lots of torque, great brakes and fantastic handling. Also, the shifting makes me not want to get back in my 915 equiped early car.

The interior leaves something to be desired, the buttons are little crappy and the stereo is hard to understand, he says once you figure it out though, it isnt bad. I would want sportier seats too.

Porsche has replaced his top 2 times. The plastic window sucks and is very difficult to clean properly. It folds when you retract the top, so it is a time bomb. They can update it to the glass style for $2800 though.

I have always thought that a properly optioned 996 coupe is a hell of a car. I will get one to add to the garage as soon as the prices nose dive some more.

Paul,

Thanks for your inputs. I did not even realize that there was a seperate forum for the later 911s, I knew there was one for the boxter.

Anyway, I will post my questions over on that board as well to see what kind of responses I get.

P.S. that really sucks about the tops, I thought they would be a pain in the butt.
