Missouri vs. California Emissions?

Live in California. Looking at an '85 Euro in Missouri.

Can anyone tell me:

1. if this car is likely to pass smog in California?
2. if not, what is it likely to require to make it pass?
3. what questions to ask the mechanic in missouri to help anwser the above questions.

Thanks

Dagness,

I went through this (I'm in SoCal). All US cars must still have a cat and pass smog, sniff and visual. The latter depends more on how vigilent the test station is, but so long as the car you're looking at passes that state's regs (legitimately, of course), you should be fine since CA's are the most stringent in the nation.

I don't know about "Euro," though. Others here can field that question. I DO know that DMV will look for a "federalized DOT" sticker on the door jamb ...standard on US cars; you've got to prove federal safety otherwise.

DMV will require a few extra piddly fees (not much...about $50-60, IIRC)for out of state transfer, but it still must pass CA smog and you present the cert on title transfer. In all, not much more effort, just make sure that emissions-related components are there and it passes a recent smog test (again, legitimately as there is lots of hank panky in that regard). Hope this helps.

Edward

Depends on where the car is located in Missouri. For example St. Louis requires some emissions testing. Here in Central Missouri the car inspection consists of checking to make sure the lights, horn and brakes work.
