Lets Hear Your Sound System

I have an old am/fm and a speaker that I wouldn't use to hold down the bottom of a trash can bag. Looking for ideas...

copper 02-03-2005 10:49 PM

JVC 220W MP3 CD
2 200W Pioneer 6x9s
1 12" 350W Sub

All three speaker boxes fit nicely along the back seats when folded down. That's all I need (more than, actually).

Alpine Cd
Boston Acoustic Components 51/4 in door. You'd be suprised how good they sound.

js1099 02-04-2005 02:31 AM

New Alpine 9807 CD XM compatible head unit
5 1/4 MB Quart in doors and rear
4 channel 100 x 4 Diamond Audio Amp
Entire setup was <$1,000 and sounds amazing, real crisp with good low end punch.

Also, went with a Clifford 2 way GPS tracking anti-theft system :) Had to do it, it it so cool!

Blaupunkt alaska head unit - not too flashy
6-1/2 JL components in the door
10w0 JL sub in the back
Alpine 5 channel amp driving everything
soon to come - sirius satellite radio mounted where the ashtray is

I think it sounds really good especially with only two speakers. I plan on putting another set in the back. I think the whole thing was under 350 since i got everything gently used off of ebay.

1pr mbquart 5.25's (in floor)
1pr mbquart 8" (in door)

Aren't you the one who built a sealed box out of the smugglers box? I think you should post pictures of that again. It is really nice work! I tried duplicating what you did and failed miserably. I used 1/2 MDF with a 10" sub and I couldn't get the MDF to stay together around the speaker. Eventually I gave up.

My setup is an Alpine CD with 5 1/4 component speakers (very high quality brand, but can't remember what they are) in the doors. It sounds very good for only two speakers. I can bring myself to cut up the rear deck for two extra speakers.

SSIs and a Dansk.

Funny Tom!

New Porsche owner here, is the Smuggler's box under the carpet in the front where the air conditioning blower is? I keep seeing references to it, as above. Just curious as I may want to smuggle some Mexicans across the border.

Could we get some pictures?

kevjandon 02-04-2005 07:16 AM

Factory orig. Blau. Montery Radio with factory door and rear speaks. I never turn it on.

All of my music comes from the 3.0 liter in the back.

88911coupe 02-04-2005 07:55 AM

Eclipse CD Player
MB Quart 6 1/2" in the door which required my building up a mounting surface since they would not just sink into the existing speaker openings.
4 X 75 watt Sony Amp bridged to Bazooka Sub on rear shelf.
Sounds really good but I'm looking into XM since my wife's TL had that and it was really nice.

Hmmm... I was thinking of a different one where the smugglers box was sealed, but the fiberglass rout looks much easier, and completely removeable. Anyway, I hadn't seen that thread yet, thanks.

Jack Olsen 02-04-2005 10:22 AM

Speaking of removeable, this one is lightweight but not technically legal.

Where can I find these MB Quarts? I really need to replace my door speakers and have had a heck of a time finding ones that fit. I have a factory electric top cab with only two speakers in the front doors and would love some better sound......well beside's the 3.2 :D

Any decent audio shop should be able to help you with the MB Quart's. I have the same car as you, but with two speakers per door. I think it was an option depending on which Blaupunkt system came in the car. Getting an amplifier will make a huge difference too. When I purchased the car from the PO, it sounded tinny, then added the new Alpine and amp and it made a huge difference.
