Parting out a 911

The dealership that I purchased my 1989 930 picked up my car last month, and they offered $1,600 for the wrecked car. I was in a front end accident and totalled the front end, the the back was untouched.

The engine looks fine, but I was not able to check it out. What kind of money should I expect to get out of it? Looking at the used parts for sale here and on yahoo auctions, it looks like parting it out myself would make much more money, but I don't have the time or garage to do that.

I have the feeling that I they are trying to rip me off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

-Chris

You'll make a lot more parting it out. Hell, if you lived a little closer, I'd come buy and yank the engine myself and give you more than they are offering...assuming the engine's in decent shape that is. Then I think of the tranny, the seats, etc...lots more money to be had parting it. If i were you I'd make garage space, and as far as time goes, wouldn't some eager buyers be willing to pull the parts themselves?

Your engine alone is worth around $7500.

Thanks guys. I am now 100% sure the dealership is giving me the run around. They told me that the used fuchs were bent and not worth anything as well, so I asked them to ship them to me, and told them I would make a table, no wonder why they made a big deal about not wanting to ship them back.

Rent a garage for two months and advertise a one car pick and pull on weekends. It'll dissapear before your very eyes while your wallet grows.

I'm with Sebring77...I do not however, think the motor is worth around $7.5 as shifter states. Depending on mileage and condition, around $5K would be reasonable. Now add up trans, rear wheels, and all interior components, glass, fenders...If you pay $100 a month for a garage, the money will be back in your pocket quicker than you can say, "show me da money"

Still, 5K and and another 900 for the tranny makes it worth it. You could partner with a P-head if you don't have the inclination. Offer up a trade of some parts for the other person's trouble and schedule a wrecker to pick up the carcass right away for a nice clean deal and a happy wife (on the other end ).

You can get the car delivered for not that much money. Around here, short moves are under a hundred.

The engine is 3.2L with about 36,000 Km on it. The interior is toast, as is the glass. I had a big guy in the back seat and he about crushed me into the steering wheel. I didnt know seatbelts could stretch that far. The seat is literally bent to 7 inches away from the steering wheel. If you look closely at the folling pic, you can see the head rest just in front of the steeing wheel.

Just sell the whole car for the price of the engine and transmission. Give the buyer the rest for the work of parting it out.

My mistake on engine price, I thought it was a 930 engine.

I guess with the top down it's a lot easier to fit a big guy in the back seat!

where is the car at, and where are you located? (Japan?)

I believe the owner said the car was converted here in the states. That does not necessarily mean the person who did the conversion did the 930 brakes! It may be just turbo flared fenders. Can anyone tell from the photo if the brakes are on the front or trailing edge of the rotors?
It the latter is true, they could be 930 brakes; if not, then such is not the case.
