Porsche Crest Fitting New Targa Seals

All,

Thanks for the help so far... but I finally lost patience with my leaky top. So I bought new seals. As it's been posted, they don't go on very easily.

We'll actually they go on very easily, it just sounds like a wind tunnel in my car. Plus it still leaks. And today, it snowed inside my car.

I've heard the new seals need to be cut. Does anyone have any thoughts or instructions on this cutting. I'm scared I'll make a mistake that can't be fixed. Should I just take it to a pro?

Thanks again,

Ged

Contact Dan Pechtel at www.carsinc-nj.com. He's "da man" when it comes to Targa tops. I'm sure he'll have your answers.

Also, do a search here on the board. I recall many threads on the issue of modifying the now-available seals to work on the older cars.

Good luck, and please post your results.

The targa seals (all of them) are a serious b!tch. I've tried getting the front seal right 3 times now and the roof is still not seating flush. I also tried the side seals, and as easy as they seem, they're hard to fit perfectly too. I plan to cut my losses and let a pro redo the front, sides and install the rear one.

Make sure that the frame is engaging in the hooks (8 of them) on the outer part of the frame. Mine was not and IT sounded like a wind tunnel. When I fixed that, the noise went away. And the leaks stopped.

Would it be better to replace them before getting the top redone or after?

Call Palo Alto Upholstery/Targatops.com. I've hear they're good. No personal experience. YMMV.
