fuel accumulator ?

I took the bottom line loose from my accumulator last night and turned the fuel pump on. fuel poured out. My understanding is that this would indicate the diaphrgm is leaking. Is that right?

My car is doing the CIS surge but my research did not reveal that a bad accumulator would cause this???

ANy way I have searched the archives and seen that leaking accumulators are bad but ususally they did not have the pump on when they get the leak. Wanted to check before spending money.

I have always assumed this meant the diaphragm was leaking. Mine did this and I replaced it and it didn't do it any more. :>)

A bad accumulator will also show up as a hard starting when warm problem. Cranks and cranks until it starts kinda thing.

I need a little clarity on this one.
I am supposed to start the engine to charge up the injection system, then shut it down, and pull the line off the bottom of the accumulator. Then if it drips its shot. Right?

Also do you put a wrench on one of the top lines to hold the acc from turning while you pull off the bottom line?
I have a hot start problem I am trying to chase. (78 911sc) Thanks

There is a little squared off area on the fuel acc. that you put your wrench on.

Ok I didn't see any squared off area to put a wrench on, but I held the thing steady and pulled the bottom line off. It did drip.
So I guess this is the hot start problem I have had. ?? If so I know what I need to buy now. Thanks

DOnt get too excited, mine was totally shot and I did not have any hot start problems.... YOu can by pass it if you can figure out how to plug all of the hoses and run for a while like that to make sure its your problem.

Hot start problems can also be leaking injectors. Surging can be a maladjusted WUR. You should spend $50 to get a fuel pressure gauge, as that's less than any CIS part costs, and you will know for sure what the problem is.

Pelican sells them. I bought a cheapo and the fittings from an Aeroquip store. ~$70. For a few more bucks you can get the real deal from Pelican (If I had known :-))
