Speedo Repair in Detroit Area

I have '87 Carrera and the odo is non functional. I pulled it apart to find the odo drive gear to be NFG. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement gear? How to remove and reinstall the speedo needle correctly? (it needs to be removed to replace the drive gear) Or a good Speedo shop in the Detroit area?

Thanks,

Arnie

You don't need anything in the Detroiit area. Mail it to Helmut, at North Hollywood Speedometer, you'll have it baqck in two days, fixed right.

As I remember, it's typically about $135 to fix/overhaul/lubricate/whatever a 911 speedo. It's basically the same amount of disassembly/reassembly work whatever they're doing--recalibration, odo gear, fixing a t/u speedo--so I think that usually pretty much covers it. It's not expensive; I've had North Hollywood do stuff like repainting the face of my tach for a higher orange/redline, etc. and have always been happoy.

If you don't want to send it out, google Specmo. They have a place here in Flint I have used for both my tach and my speedo. There is a shop in the Troy area, I believe. It might be cheaper if you drop it off.

EDIT: Tried their website. It is under remodeling now. They are in Berkley. Hope this helps.

Garage
North Hollywood fixed mine last spring and did a great job. I think the total was $140, including shipping to Detroit. They had the speedometer 1 week.
