Pop-out rear quarter Windows
Guys:
I've seen some of the previous threads on this conversion...one other question, however: Did the factory ever make black trim pop-outs ( as I search for old pieces)....or do I *have* to paint or anodize or powder coat them black ??? Wil |

Hi Wil,
On my previous 1974 911, I had chromed trim around all the windows, including the rear quarter windows. As I understand it, when Porsche AG put A.C. in all American cars for the SC, they deleted the pop-outs as "superfluous". Thus, I doubt that there are any stock SC's with pop-out quarters that have stock black trim.

pop-outs
I found a set of black popout for my car. They made them for at least one year.

Are you sure it was stock? Anyone know which year....maybe the 74 "Carrera" ( which pre-dated the SC rear fender flairs by at least 4 years???) as opposd to a (say) 74 "911".....??

My 77 has black trim and hardware. I have period brochures that show black was OEM.
I broke one of the flip-locks, or what ever you call it, when I locked my keys in the car. When I tried to replace it, all I could find were chrome. I just sanded and painted by hand. To change all the trim would be more work, but probably worth it.

My '74 has chrome trim pop outs and (it had) a/c.
I might be going to Lexan windows. So if anyone's looking for a couple in good condition...

Hi poorsha,
My 74 911 had no A.C., and I didn't miss it with the the sunroof and the pop-out windows. There was plenty of air flow through the cockpit with the pop-outs so as to not require A.C. in Washington DC. Did your car have a sunroof? Perhaps cars without a sunroof didn't have them, for I remember very distinctly that if I opened the sunroof without popping open the windows, there would be a "drumming" of air in the inerior. As for Mr. Anzures I am puzzled, for its color looks exactly like my old 1974 911, including the same interior color, but I know I had chrome trim (I'll post a piucture next week. My picture is on my garage wall, and I'm at work). Perhaps Porsche had different options on ROW cars vs. Amurican cars? Let's not forget these cars are over 22 years old, and unless yours is original, like mine, many things could have been perpetrated by Previous Owners.

Andras,
no sunroof. My car is very original too but it does have some strange stuff: sport seats sport 3 spoke steering wheel (thicker diameter) all S options Goes like stink too.

Hi poorsha,
I guess if one were to be VERY unscientific, then you have proven my point. Your SC has no sunroof, therefore it didn't come with the pop-outs. I looked at al my old pictures again, now over 23 years old, and see that I had the chromed pop-outs with sunroof, it had the sport seats, it did NOT have the 3 spoke, though I have installed the Cavallino small-diameter thick-rim steering wheel for better gripping ( I am 6'-3" with very large hands), and it too had all the S options for the time. That said, I do like my 83 SC better, since it has the flares, the wide wheels, sport seats, and all the other "go fast" items I've managed to install over the years. And it is a cousin of all the cars that came to the finish line at Daytona 24!!!!!!!!
