In dash CD player won't
1994 911 C2 with in dash radio/cd player. put ta CD in the slot and it spins up(sometimes), but will no longer play. press the 'eject' and it has a mind of its own...always ejects, but not on the first command anymore. so...anything that i might be able to do to salvage this unit? could it be as 'simple' as a slipping belt/band? the radio and other controls still work as designed. thanks for any insight.

MY CD changer did the same thing and I had it "rebuilt" by a car audio shop near my house. Set me back $125 but they gave me a 30 day warranty and it's been fine for over a year. Does it do that with prerecorded CDs or ones that you have burned?

it does this with the store bought cd's. thank you for the reply by the way.

You could take that 125 bucks and almost buy a brand new one. just a thought.

Agreed... it's absolutely not worth fixing an 11-12 year old CD player. Even if the parts were still available (which they probably are not), fixing it could easily cost the price of a new one. Besides, the newer players are less prone to skip, are more powerfull... and feature for feature, are probably 1/2 the price of what your original CD player cost. Also, if you get a new CD player, it's worth the extra few dollars (and it's only a few dollars) for a CD player that also plays data discs with mp3s. That way you can make 7-8 hour long discs for your car. No need for CD changers :) -MAS |
If you have the Porsche factory CD-2 radio it is really an Alpine unit. I think the comparable alpine unit was the 7904.

I have a CD with a little brush on it, you use it to clean the lens on CD players, it muts have only been about 8 bucks, and it's worked wonders on probably 5 or 6 CD players.

I didn't want to replace my in-dash tuner, which I would have had to do if I replaced the CD changer. I opted to repair mine because the Pioneer headend is really nice and in great shape. Someday, I'll replace the in-dash unit with a MP3 player and replace the speakers, but that wont be soon as I'm putting an addition on my house and $ will be in short supply for awhile!
