Wurth SKS Stone Gaurd - Need Help Please!
I called WURTHUSA Tech = Braindead
I called Pelican = Didnt know. ------------------------------------------------ Is Wurth SKS Stone Gaurd Paintable? Can it be used in an engine bay? How many cans for 4 wheel wells? Do I need to prime it with anything special before I paint it? I already have the gun to spray it.. Thanks Todd |
StoneGuard is paintable but Underbody seal is not.
Here: http://www.wurthusa.com/en/catalog/product.php?path=06.0510.jpg I think two 1000 ml cans will do 4 wells. I'd probably get three just in case. Can hopefully return if unused. |

It is paintable for sure. I will try to get some product information and will post it asap.

You can paint under it, over it or both. You must have a clean, grease and oil free surface to apply. I would strongly recommend sealing the metal first with POR 15 or some kind of primer as the SKS is not air tight.
You can use it in the engine bay. I assume you are thinking of heat. I have bought the stuff twice and one qt. did a gas tank. The next time, 1 qt. did the front suspension pan, top and bottom and touched up the wheel wells. I would get a gallon for all wheel wells and the engine bay. At least 3 qts., and in most cases, 3 qts. is more in price than a gallon. I don't know if you can buy gallons, though. If you buy qts., you can return any unopened qts., or better yet, sell it in the classifieds. |
Thanks Guys!!
I stripped it Then Marine Clean Then Metal Ready Then Por-15 Black Then Por-15 Etching Primer Now I need undercoating Then paint... |
It is a couple bucks more ($26) from PelicanP. ,
but I am going to buy it from them anyway to show my support :D :D :D |

SKS Stoneguard and anti-corrosion compound.
Protects sills, front and rear ends, wings, fenders, underbody etc. High degree of protection against flying stones and corrosion with sound deadening effect. Highly elastic. Mist free application - no running and ripping -does not pull threads. Resistant to oil, petrol, not flammable. Environmentally compatible. Can be painted over after 2-3 hours (drying more rapid if treated object heated up to a max. of +80 oC) with 2 -component, synthetic resin and priming paints. The appearance of the treated surface is a guide to when it can be safely painted over. The colour of the compound when it is applied differs from the final colour, which it assumes when dry. The change of colour takes place from the adges to the middle. When the colour tone is uniform the product is dry and can be painted over ; must be used after normal commercial primer. Surfaces to be treated must be dry and free of rust, dirt and grease. Wax and old underseal coating must be removed. Kees. |
Thanks Kees!!!
I just ordered 4 x 1000ml of the SKS |
You do have their gun to spray?? Make sure you really cover all the painted surfaces of the car, no matter how carefull you are this ***** goes everywhere and you will feel it when your run your hand over your paint. Trust me! Learned the hard way, It paints over nice, I just redid the lower rear quater flares that always get chipped up real bad on my 86

Yes I have the proper gun, it is a 3M brand but the same as the Wurts gun.
The car is in primer but I will tarp it and mask off where I am working. My home compressor ( 25yrs old Sears ) died yesterday so last night I went to Sams Club and bought a Delta 6.5hp Aluminum 2 stage 17cfm x 80 gallon for $770 and I think it will be a good unit. |
Wurth gun screws right onto the SKS Stone Guard bottle; does the 3M gun match the bottle thread? Jim
|
I would think so but I have some disposable bottles that fit the 3M gun
