Animated Porsche engine - full size version available!!!
Ok, stand back! The technology to publish the 1000 x 792 pixel version of the animation is now implemented. The .gif file has been "super compressed" using overlay files to shrink the size from over 8 meg down to 1.5 meg, making it possible to host it on my AOL account and share it!
Here's the animation in its full size, the perfect wallpaper! http://members.aol.com/darryld/930.gif Now you can see everything without the "jaggies" from reducing the size! Enjoy and thanks for the encouraging feedback! |
So, when's the 2.7RS MFI version coming out Darryl? :D
Oh BTW, very nice job! :) |
Hey Jim!
Feast your eyes on this: http://members.aol.com/darryld/teaser.jpg The refinements I'm making to the CIS model are really part of the MFI one too. |
How many people see the pulley(one with about 6 holes) on the fan go counterclockwise? My eyes will catch it clockwise sometimes, but defaults to counter.
|
Relax.... that's just a random hypnotic element added to camouflage the subliminal "send Darryl your PayPal password" message! :D
|
Very Cool...
Thanks for sharing with the board. |
Darryl, that MFI engine looks great! :D
|
Just keeps getting better....
|
This almost makes up for the grid girls thread being gone.
Thanks Darryl!!! |
Awesome! My soon to be personal Porsche mechanic just learned alot about how the flat sixes work. My son (Justin 12) and I were adjusting my valves tonight and the question came up as to how all this works. Images speak louder than words.
Thanks!, Jon |
Since you're determined to turn this into a model that PAG would have made (and sold for $150)....
the fuel and air/fuel mix could be blue the spark could be yellow the exhaust could be red there could be a button to turn off the colors (if they obscure other events) there could be a button to stop the animation, and to 'bump' it along to TDC, etc. |
Now all we need is a throttle so we can test out our cable modems and those REALLY fast Dell computers we all bought for internet surfing!
The animation impressed everyone at my house! Jim |
Real Nice...!

Beautiful work! Thanks!!
|
Great job! Much appreciated!
|
Incredible!!! Thanks again!
|
Awesome. can I get it to repeat when it's set as your wallpaper?? How would you do this?
|
Darryl:
That's incredible, can you make the oil pump work or show the piston squirters? J.P. |
I just couldn't take it anymore, I fixed that loose cooling fan, now it doesn't bounce around so much. The bolt holding it was not torqued to spec.
|
That looks awesome! But does the uncompressed version look better? Darryl, I sent you a PM two days ago...:)
|
Hey Jeff! Sorry I missed your PM, I just discovered a whole bunch of them waiting in my inbox.
This is the full size version, the size of the original scan from the factory manual so the clarity doesn't get any better than this: http://members.aol.com/darryld/pbooks.jpg The compression comes from building an overlay mask of changed pixels between each of the 20 frames. Since about 95% of the drawing is static, this resulted in reducing the size of the 20 frame "flip book" from over 8 meg to about 1.2 meg. This process is really just doing some simple math to figure out the pixel location of a particular rotating point on the engine each each of the 20 frames, then editing 20 separate pictures. If you look really close you'll see red dots, those are the points I'm referring to. |

Darryl ,
Great job on the Porsche Engine. We are thinking of changing our PCA web site and was wondering if you mind if we used this somewhere on our web site. Thanks, Ron |
