'84 911 will crank but doesn't start right away

I have a 1984 euro 911 and anytime I try to start the 911 it takes several attempts to start it before it turns over and runs. Sometimes I end up cranking it for 5-10 seconds before it will start and that takes 3-4 tries. Eventually, it does start but it's painful to my gut.

Recently, I've updated my battery to a small Odyssey battery and just replaced the fuel pump last week. Could the battery be the issue? I don't think so because I had the problem even before the battery change.

HELP!

Does it crank but not fire or when you turn the key nothing happens? I'm unclear from your posting

bet it is loss of fuel pressure, there is a pressure valve at the pump, after the pump, and one on the return line at the rear of the motor, one may be bad. Easy to check next time before you start the car, undo the nut on the drivers fuel rail, slowly and see if you have residual fuel pressue, if not , that is the problem. The 3.2 fuel pump only starts running after the motor is turning over, so if you loose the residual pressure, it takes time to build it up again. Thus you need to turn it over a few times to get it going. Mine is that way, I live with it. Should fix it, someday after everything else is done.

Cool! I'll check it out.

Are there any other potential problems that I can check out that may cause my issue?

Fuel pressure regulator ( on one side of the engine) and fuel pressure damper ( on the other side) can be bad and lead to apparent low fuel presuure restart problems.....
