Here is the interior and engine as requested. Not the greatest camera, sorry.

Now that I have the car on the road and all the kind words from you guys...I can confess a big bone-head move I made while getting the engine back in. Having been the first 911 I've worked on, while it was apart, I did a total clutch replacement. The old one was hammered. Down to the rivits wasted the flywheel and all. SO...I replaced it all and threw away the old stuff.

I put the engine and tranny all together, lifted it up into the car, completed all the wiring and added new fluids, charged the battery (I know some of you are chuckling already) reached in and turned the key. The starter motor wirrrrred, the bendix kicked in but the motor didn't turn over. What the F#&@? Tried it again, NOTHING.

Put the car back up on the lift and pulled the starter. Something's gotta be wrong with it, Right? With the starter out, I noticed that looking in at the flywheel, it looked kinda plain. Where the hell are the gear teeth? OKAY STOP LAUGHING! At that point I felt kind of faint and had to sit down. What the heck happened? Could the new flywheel have come without gear teeth. DUH!

The rest you can guess. I threw away a perfectly good ring gear with the pressure plate assembly and had to buy a new one. Engine back out, 2 days for shipping, reassembly, back in, BINGO, it runs!!!

Please tell me I'm not the only one to ever do this. You guys are the only ones I've admitted it to and I swear you all to secrecy.

You are not the only one who's done it.. Evidently it's so common, there's a reminder in the rebuild book.

When doing my clutch install I ALMOST did the same thing. I dont feel to bad because my motor didnt come with an old setup, so I was starting from scratch. I just happened to notice it before I connected the trans! I had to order a new one fom our host.

What color car is that? Is it the original paint job?

Miguel,

It's not the original paint but it is the original color. The color code is 408, Chocolate Brown. I also saw it in one book for the year 1974 also called Cockney Brown.

I stripped and repainted it as part of the restoration using a modern base coat / clear coat. Turned out good and pretty much an exact match.
