Exclamation Movable wind vents and aft windows in a SC?

Has anyone replaced the fixed wind windows with older style movable ones in a 79SC? Same for fixed rear side windows? Any special problems? Do the older ones fit? Which years?

I have my SC apart for painting and have removed the problem air conditioner and lines. Someone suggested I also add the movable wind vents and rear windows. Sounds good but every time I have tried to back date something I run into engineering problems of one sort or another, therefor "caution". Would love to hear from someone who has done it.

Thanks

they fit my 73.5 and I like them despite more wind noise

you replace the whole door frame BTW for the fronts
there are Al ones and chrome plated brass ones - the latter weigh more but I was told they don't warp like the Al ones

look for wrecked targas....

Dunno about your SC re fit tho.

For the rear ones from a '66 you will have to tap the 3 holes that the latch mechanism screws into unless you find that the holes are already there hidden under your headliner.

Don't hold me to this. But I believe the rubber seal that wraps around the rear vent window for sealing also attaches around the B pillar which may or may not require pulling loose the seal around the door.

Then there is the aluminum trim for inner and outer horizontal surfaces. Not sure if they are the same or not between years.

And if you do go this route be careful with the two machine screws that attache the Latch to the rear vent window. On my car one machine screw was longer than the other. PO had swapped them which popped the brazed on threaded plate loose from the actual window frame.

On the front door vent window the swing handle that clamps the window closed rides up a little steel ramp which I believe is stamped into the door on my '66. Not sure if the "Ramp" is on the SC door.

By the way I had fun taking the front door vent window assembly apart to replace the rubber seal.

Thanks, but I am hoping to hear from someone who has done it to a SC. Nothing like experience with an old gal!

If you do a search on "pop-out" in the Porsche 911 Technical Forum, you will find a thread titled "Rear quarter window Modification" started by Eagle1. About 20 posts into the thread there is a comment by TRE Cup that discusses in detail the installation of the pop-out windows in a fixed window coupe.
