Alarm Remote - How to Replace?
I've got a full immobilizer with central locking on my car which is required for insurance. However I've only got the one remote and it has recently begun to break. What can I do from here? Must I buy a whole new "brain" or can a new remote be tuned? It's an older sytem put in by the PO and I actually can't even work out what brand it is... Ideas?

John,
On my '01 Toyota truck, the PO had a Viper brand alarm installed. I only got 1 remote when I purchased the truck, and looked for another. I did know the brand, but I was able to cross reference the remote model (from the numbers imprinted on the back side), and found what I needed to know off this site. I then browsed fleabay and found a complete alarm system (used - with 2 remotes) for $10. :D I went to the above site and downloaded the instruction sheets for programming a remote for my alarm. Are there any markings on the remote reverse side? |
if it's aftermarket i would take the car (or pull the brain out) and stop by a local car audio/security store, i'm sure someone can point you in the right dirrection.
or post a pic and although you're in australia i may recognize it. |
Thanks guys. I'll get into it a get some numbers. Mark the link you gave me might be just what I need as it's the "chassis" that is breaking and they seem to have an assortment of replacements.
