megaphones verses straight pipes
why would one choose a megaphone over just a straight pipe?

I've wondered that too.
The Supercup cars use no megaphones. Perhaps it muffles a bit (?) or enhances carbureted cars' performance. Only my vague guesses....love to hear some educated answers

Another thought, do a search for MotoGP + megaphone. It looks like the new 4 stroke bikes are running megaphones.

you might want to sketch out the wavelength of a pressure pulse as it goes thru a diverging cone the diverging/converging cone seems to work by wave interference - there is some information in Phil Smith's classic text
