Help - Modifiying Suspension Cover Protection Plate
I am in the process of installing the front suspension in my RSR clone. The base car is a 73 1/2 911T. I am using the later model aluminum front cross member.
It looks like I can make a simple modification to my original suspension protection plate to make it fit the aluminum cross member by driiling 2 mounting holes in the plate that will line up with the cross braces that are bolted to the aluminum cross member. I would then use slightly longer bolts on the cross braces to bolt the front of the cover to the cross member. The rear of the cover will bolt up to the rear of the cross braces. Previous posts have stated that it is necessary to use the later model protection plate with the aluminum cross member. I have my old plate beadblasted, painted and ready for installation and would prefer not to buy an new/old protection plate. Has anyone done this type of modification to make the original plate work with the aluminum cross member. Should I just go and buy a new/old plate? |

I drilled mine and used the same bolts. Eventually, I found a newer one & had it powdercoated and installed it.
