Moaning Noise from front end?
 
85 Carrera, exhibits low moaning from front end when turning at low speeds.

Any diagnostics?

Car is new to me. 165K miles

wheel bearing. not too bad of a DIY project... lots of threads on the subject.

I'd agree. wheel bearings.
Grab one of your front wheels at the 12 oclock position and shake hard you will hear a possible knocking sound easy but greasy job..

Moaning from the front end is a good thing. Unless you're talking about cars, in which case it's probably a worn bearing.

Or a sticking brake caliper. Does it go away when you put your foot on the brake? Does it moan with anybody else - or do you have the valentine's touch?
