I'm clueless here.. But I think all G50's were hydraulic clutch... So there's one way to tell (unless I'm wrong : -)

what year is your car? 915's were put in up to 1986. They are cable actuated and not hydraulic. Not sure when they replaced the 901's (pre-915) but the 901's had reverse above 1st. 1987 to at least thru 89 you have a hydraulic G50.

As I understand it, the G50 has a different shift pattern with reverse being up and away from 1st, rather than straight behind 5th. Was intoruced in the '87 year model.

no cables for 915 but they are mech. actuated w/ shift rod; started in '72 and there are various minor changes during their run

edit - he means the clutch on cars with a 915 - yes correct

Thanks Randy, my brain is only partially working. Yes I did mean clutch actuation noting the difference between telling the two apart.

OZ- I think the 87-89 911 5 speed has the same pattern as the 915. The 6 speed 993's are different again.

"Most" of the car is a 86 but someone put a 3.3 litre turbo motor and a 5 spd transmission in the car . Reverse is near 4th ( down and to the right )

if it does not like to shift fast...... then it is a 915...... but the g50 is twice as fast as the 915....or is that half as slow?

(just having fun guys)

Sounds like a 915, in a G50 reverse its left and up, left of first
