I did it. My car has passed through the quarter million miles mark. I feel a little celebration is in order! how many miles are on your car? 1/4 million or less need not apply!
How long have you owned it? How many of the miles are yours? Engine and tranny rebuild history? Paint or restoration history? Thanks I guess I should answer my questions too. My car was purchased in LA by from what I understand a 40 year old female Doctor. She took it to the shop every time a bulb blew and had the car gone over. As far as I know it is the original color exterior but the interior was Lobster in leather. The car moved with the Doctor to Virginia. May 1998 at 193,000 the car was sold to our own Leland Pate. Leland who lived in Maryland was transferred to Idaho and the car went back to the other side of the country. Leland restored the interior to black. the only real issue is the dash. It is a plastic cover with a carpet on top. It looks ok but... I need a black dash pad. He recovered the Targa top and replaced the gutters and the side rubber. it looks pretty good but I need a new top. Lots of exterior rubber replaced, yadda yadda yadda... In May 2000 at 217,210 miles it was discovered that there was a broken head stud. From what he described it may have been broken for some time. At that point complete engine rebuild and tranny rebuild. This is where my car has some special 911 history... Leland took a few months gathering info before he did anything to the car. I have a journal I'm looking at now to get my facts straight. It is blank from May 2000 till March 2002 From the story as I remember it, Leland had completed the motor rebuilt, the tranny was back. Everything was ready for install, he stayed up all night putting the tranny and the motor back in the car and fell asleep on the couch in the shop. That was the very early morning of September 11, 2001. Leland happened to be employed by the US Airforce and was woken up at I guess around 5:30 or 6am Idaho time by the news that the World Trade Center was hit. He was soon sent to Qatar while the car sat waiting. Leland is a very good salesman because he persuaded me to by the car from North Carolina. That was 3/15/03 at about 229,000 miles. I have rebuilt the front end and reundercoated the pans and wheel wells. Oil lines, axles... you know how it goes, the list goes on and on. This car has had a lot of love and money poured into it by everyone who has owned it. Paint history? I don't know but it was repainted at some point. Not perfect and ready for another one but it has a thick clear coat that shines like the devil!

Well mine has 240k miles on, just 10k to go. Here's the awsome thing about it. It has never had an engine rebuild but had the tranny rebuilt. Still runs great! Oh yeah it's a 84' 911.

Ok off topic but here are our cars
1978 911sc Targa - 3rd owner, owned it about 9 years have ~ 91,000 miles (have what appears to be all receipts from day it was purchased new) and have put 47,000 miles on it. Rebuilt the engine about 8,000 miles ago when a over rev took out 6 valves and a head. 1980 MB 240D - My father was the original owner. My first car. Got it when it had 75,000 miles and drove it another 11 years and tallied another 300,000 miles. The most extensive engine work done was a timing chain at 185,000 miles. Original clutch was replaced at 195,000 miles. Still own it and will be restoring it to like new eventually. Maybe make it my son's first car. Can't get in trouble with a 4000 lb car with 68 hp. ![]() 2000 VW Jetta TDI - original owner currently have 131,000 miles. Have had no major issues. Most miles in a year (actually 7 months) was 42,000 miles. Lifetime mpg's 51.8. Been chipped for the last 110,000 miles 2002 Subaru Outback - 35,000 miles. Subaru has me sold. Great car. So Mike my 911 is the youngest one as far as miles per year but those miles have all been fun. The second owner only had the car for 18 months and drove about 3,000 miles. I need to replace all my top seals and I did my own Targa rebuild. I will save the money and have Dan Petchel redo it at some point. Probably drive up to see him as I have relatives in the area. Congrats on the 1/4 million mark.

Anecdotal story but there was guy at a Road Atlanta DE back in 95 (?) that had a 911SC with 286,000 miles on it, I beleive. No engine work ever.
The engine blew in spectacular fashion coming down the hill into turn 12. What a way to go... Mike

I had an 83SC with 250,000 miles on a origional motor. It was
starting to smoke some but not too bad, I was starting to save up for a rebuild when I totaled her out last Christmas. The car ran great ! I lost it in a curve.... I did a DE with the car with about 200,000 miles on it, and I dyno'd the car at about that same time as the DE and got 179hp at the wheels. |

78SC with roughly 415000 km (~257k miles). The SC has been repainted at least once. Engine rebuilt at least once. Unknown transmission history.

I assume you were asking about 911s but maybe not?
Anyway, our Mercedes wagon ('88 300TE) just turned over 250K last Sunday. Engine/trans never been touched, just normal maintenance, plus the typical switches, seat motors, window motors, etc. that you get with an old car. Our '84 Saab Turbo also went over 250K with no engine work - head never off, turbo never touched. Needed a tranny at 165K. Other than that, same as above.
