Quick front oil cooler mounting quetion
All parts are off and I'm ready to re-assemble. I got a Setrab cooler from Elephant racing. 1.) The AC condenser vent is now behind the oil cooler. Will it ever get sufficient air? 2.) I am using a RUF front end I got from Randy Ross, the cooler touches the tub at the bottom as it flares out. There is a space at the top of about 1" There is NO WAY to ge 1-2" of space between cooler and the front of the tub as the bumper will not allow it. Have others had this problem? Obviously air flow is the primary concern and the "snugness" has me a bit concerned. What do you think?

Engine displacement has a direct bearing on the amount of cooler you need. 2 liters seems to be the threshold between no cooler and an external one, and the larger the engine the more critical the size, and in some cases, the number of coolers and their placement.
My 2.7 has a front-mounted cooler that is essentially mounted flush with the front bulkhead (due to bumper space), and although not ideal it cools fine - never above 210-220º. Larger engines may need more cooler, and many with 3.6 engines seem to use both a fender AND a front-mounted cooler or two fender-mounted coolers. Either that or a very large front cooler with sheet metal mods for increased air flow in and out. Regarding the A/C condenser, it's in a compromised position already. You might want to contact Jack Olsen and ask what he uses, or others may want to chime in with their experience. Hope this helps, Sherwood |

Different bumpers provide different challenges. A picture or two may be helpful.
Here are a couple pics of Bill Vs RUF setup, though he is using a B&B cooler. I think the B&B is actually thicker so your setup should be even easier. ![]() ![]() Getting a clear exit path behind the cooler is critical to efficient operation. If you can't get enough space, notching into the front tub to create a space is a good solution. edit: I don't know why those pics are displaying. Click the links to see them.
