New seats in an early car
I bought some 74 911 seats for my 67 912 and noticed they dont fit (duh). I didnt expect them to so Im in the process of making adapters. Has anyone else done this? Any tips on making the brackets? I was thinking some 8th inch aluminum drilled out to size. They're already in autocad if someone needs the drawings I came up with.

I'm doing the same thing now. Since the general recommendation is 1/8" steel, I'm not sure if 1/8" aluminum is strong enough. If you've done the math and determined it is, let me know--love to save 4-5 lbs that way.

matt, the rails on your 67 912 (which is what I used to own) are wider than the ones on your seat. I think they were about 1/2 inch or so. You can buy them for about 75$ or spend about half an hour and $10 to make them yourself. I used a 1/8 inch steel plate to narrow the rails on the floorboard and it worked fine. I would be leery of using aluminum because if you are in an accident, I am not sure if it would keep your seats in place. I am no expert about the safety stuff though.
Again, it is very easy to make your own. Good luck, David

Im NOT paying 150 bucks for 4 pieces of steel... I'll do it myself.
Im starting to think the aluminum is bad. I'll find some steel and go with that.

Many threads on this topic (include seat adapter as a search term). Be sure you have a plan to anchor your lap belt/shoulder harness as the mounting point on later cars is different.
Somewhere here is a thread that give the pertinent dimensions. Older (pre-73) seat rails are about 18" on center, the newer seats are 16" on center. This is one thread: RSL-Classic seats . If you do not want to fab your own, try PEParts (www.peparts.com).
