Half shafts back !

WOW !

I dropped the half shafts off yesterday around 4:30 p.m. and they were ready to be picked up by 1:00 p.m. today.

I won't be ready to install them for a while but they looked SO nice I thought I'd share...

Sorry it's not studio quality and I'm leaving the plastic on to keep them clean, but VERY artistic craftsmanship.

I wire brush cleaned the shafts only then handed them over. They bead blasted them, rebuilt the CVs with oversized balls, then put on new boots and clamps. they re-used the plates. they re-painted the axles black. Not high quality paint, but I think I may go over it one more time just for a little extra durability..

I forgot to drop the stub axles off yesterday, but brought them by today for a bead-blasting along with the mounting hardware.

(I'm going to use new washers though)

$65 per axle, seemed VERY fair to me, what do you think?

$65 per axle is a superb deal. You did very well.

Who did you take them too? Location in Cinci?
I need to get my CV's gone over, also wonder if this shop rebuilds LSD's?

Be careful.....

Sometimes a good deal does not work out that way ovar the "long haul"...

Many rebuilders rework and reprofile the worn cages and don't re-harden the wearing surfaces......in my experience most people have to compete with the PEP-boys units that are offered for cheap...and this is what you get . Sure, the PEP-boys units may be guaranteed...but what about YOUR labor to R&R ??

If you go to a racing shop that rebuilds CV joints...you'd be paying much more and usually for good reason.

For the ricer crowd.....an outift in Florida called "Raxles" goes further in desrcibing their work process , and their method takes a cue from the racer's shop example I gave. I'll try to find the Raxles site and see if they do Porsche's, and post here...unless of course there is a Pelican service that we'd be infringing upon, and I'll draw back accordingly.

Wil

EDIT:
Here is a small tech blurb from Raxles on rebuild quality, etc...

I would buy NEW mounting bolts as well. Small investment in safety.

the newer axles are about 200-250 for rebuilds in this area and bolts from porsche are only about 30 cents each got a ton of them
