Early Metal Side Mirrors - Black Durable?
As a part of my re-restoring my '73, one of the things I'm doing is replacing the 993 style aero mirrors that I had installed and am going back to the metal mirrors that are more correct for the year.
Here's a link from our Host's site of the mirror (#6) on the parts diagram: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/PartsLookup/search.cgi?command=show_page&Catalog_Name=911_USA_74_77_KATALOG&Illustration=809-10&Line_Item=6 I wanted to go with a black finish, since it will go better with my trim & graphics colors. The '73 mirrors came in stainless and I see that the +74 years come in a black finish......but had a slightly larger size. How durable is the black on these mirrors? Is it black paint? My current aero mirrors take a beating from bugs and flying objects, so I was wondering how the black on the metal mirrors hold up. I was considering getting the +74 mirrors since they are slightly larger than the smaller 73 ones. If they are not durable, I might buy the smaller 73 ones in SS and then get them powder coated black......I am looking at getting my door handles and several other parts powder coated black any ways. Any experience with these black mirrors? |

Good friend of mine has a Euro '75 Carrera. White with black graphics and a black mirror. (Page 90 in 'The Porsche 911 Buyers Guide')
The car was restored about 10-12 years ago now. The mirror seems to be holding up just fine. He uses the car on weekends and runs it up from SoCal to the Monterey Historics every year. My .02 Cooper
