I have an 87 Carrera and need to know what type of lubricant to fill the tranny up with? Is swepco 201 OK in these transaxles? If not what does Porsche recommend?
Thanks Greys |

Swepco would be fine but Mobil 1 Synthetic is good here because of the more normal Borg-Warner style syncros used for the G50 ( unlike the Porsche baulk-ring syncros used for 915).

Greys, You will want to use Mobil 1 synthetic in your G-50. Depending on your use, change it every 6 months if driven regularly. If you track the car change every 10hrs. of run time, especially if you have a ZF LSD.
Cheers, James

Is this formulation of Red Line rated GL-5?.....most Redlines are API GL-4 ....

Recently I have heard from a couple of wrenches, however, that a mix of dino and synthetic tranny lubes is best, and will try that next (mixing Redline in). Tom

I went through, dino hypod, mobil 1, redline 75-90 straight and have the Best shifting with Redline 75-90 ns. Car has 87,000 miles and doesn't look to have been taken apart, at least the tranny.

The Mobil 1 will be more shear stable. The synthetics will work fine and be more oxidatively stable. The will also have a higher viscosity index which means they hold their viscosity over a wider temp range. As far as 75W90 or 85W90 - the second number is what you really want to focus on. That is the operating temperature viscosity, th first number has to due with flow at low temps. Not a huge differnece between 75 and 80.
