help. engine wont turn over after clutch job:

this is a repost with new evidence...

so basically i replaced the clutch and after putting the engine back in it wont turn over. i pull it back an inch and i can turn it easy with a wrench. i took off the starter when the engine was all the way up and stuck. looks like the pressure plate was jammed into the tranny housing.

i was wondering if anyone has similar symptoms. i am still not sure what's wrong. i just pulled the engine out again and will take off the pressure plate tomorrow.

what should be the distance between the flywheel and the engine? i am guessing i got the flywheel washer wrong, but i have to take off the pressure plate to see.

please help.

thanks.

PS.
i promised some people pics of "european racing headers". i'll try to have those up tomorrow.

I'd check to make sure the clutch disc and throwout bearing and facing the correct direction. I once bought an Austin Healey where the PO had put the clutch disk in backwards. It caused a different problem, but somthing is keeping your pressure plate from seating into the correct position

the flywheel "washer" needs to be under the bolt heads, not between crank and flywheel. it's been done here before.
