Putting MFI back on Car a few Questions:

I'm putting my MFI back on my 72 T MFI and have a few quick questions:

I put the entire MFI throttle bodies back on the car in a single piece. There is a gasket between the throttle bodies and the head. There are 2 nuts that hold each clylinder on with aluminum washers. I flipped over the aluminum washers and tightened snugly, not violently tight. Is this okay?

About how tight should I re-install the injectors?

Thanks.

Ian

Ian,

This is not a small deal. Great care is warranted.

How long has the MFI been off? What kind of preservation was done?
Has the MFI pump been rebuilt or serviced?
Have the nozzles been tested?
Do you have all the components and are they in good order?

Tell us more about the existing condition.
Don’t try and start it yet! !! !!!

To answer your direct question; yes, there is a gasket between the throttle body and head.

STOP, don't do anything more until you get some answers.

Best,
Grady

Grady, thanks for your concern....

Grady, thanks for your concern....
It was running about 2 months ago. I pulled the engine to replace the clutch and do a bunch of other stuff as well.

Here is what I have done so far:

1) installed rocker shaft seals
2) Replaced a few worn rocker Arms/shafts/etc
2) Adjusted Valves
3)Replaced Seal that drives MFI Pump
4) Had MFI pump resealed- it was leaking oil
5) Replaced Rear Main Pulley Seal
6) Changed Chain Ramps
7) Powdercoated all sheet metal
8) Removed Oil Cooler and had sonically cleaned
9) Had John Walker Rebuild Transmission
10)Replaced Breather Gasket
11) Replaced Sending Unit Gaskets
12) Had all 6 injectors spray pattern tested: Replaced 2
13) Will replace Clutch as well.

So I'm putting it all back together and I'm curious if there is a torque spec for the injectors as well as the nuts that hold the throttle bodies to the head.

Thanks,
Ian

Here is what I have done so far:

1) installed rocker shaft seals
-Good
2) Replaced a few worn rocker Arms/shafts/etc
-Good
2) Adjusted Valves
-Good and re-torque the rockers and adjust the valves several times – 100 mi, 500 mi, 2500. Note if the valve clearance changes much. There is the issue all new surface rockers against a run-in cam.
3) Replaced Seal that drives MFI Pump
-Good – did a pump rebuilder do the work?
4) Had MFI pump resealed- it was leaking oil
-Good – as above. See note below.
5) Replaced Rear Main Pulley Seal
-Good maintenance.
6) Changed Chain Ramps
-Outstanding – this should be regular maintenance.
7) Powdercoated all sheet metal
-Cool.
8) Removed Oil Cooler and had sonically cleaned
-Good maintainance.
9) Had John Walker Rebuild Transmission
-Money well spent.
10)Replaced Breather Gasket
-Also replace the thermostat O-ring, the sealing rings at the oil pressure sender, the supply and return hose to the MFI pump.
11) Replaced Sending Unit Gaskets
-Good.
12) Had all 6 injectors spray pattern tested: Replaced 2
-Outstanding. Clean and periodically reinstall the two old nozzles. They may recover and make good test parts for you.
13) Will replace Clutch as well.
-Yup.

-NOTE: There was a thread a week or so ago about refilling a MFI pump. My recommendation is to lay it on its side and fill with fresh oil through the oil drain. Then stand it in normal position and let any excess drain out.

So I'm putting it all back together and I'm curious if there is a torque spec for the injectors as well as the nuts that hold the throttle bodies to the head.
-Make sure the copper washer under the nozzle and the other surfaces are very clean and burr free. A little Antisieze on the threads. I think the torque specs are in CMA.

Best,
Grady
