Pertronix fit problem.
Did I order the wrong "Ignitor" Ignition for my car?
PN PT1847v 1966 911 Dist # 231 159 001 The base mount for the Ignitor system will not fit without interfering with the points cam lobes. Mike |
For 1965-67 the Pertronix P/N shouild be "1866" according to my information.

Right,
Looking at Peilcan's site, it is not crystal clear that the 1847 is a 4cyl only unit. (Listed with the 911 parts) The 1866 isn't shown on their site, but is on the Pertronix site. Looks like it will have to go back. |
Guenter,
Which part # pertronix are you using in your cis T? Is it on a stock distributor? thanks. |

They only list ignitors for Bosch distributors. I am sure that the guys from the 914 forum would love to trade you their engine for yours. |
Once I got the correct model (1866V) it went in fine (although there was still a clearance issue with a screw body that projected into the distributor, a little Dremel relief fixed it).
Wired it to the MSD 6AL per a diagram found here on the Pelican Forum and even got my tach to work! Also thanks to information found here. This forum is truely an amazing resource. |
John, I'm curious what makes you think it's a 914 model? Wouldn't that be for a 4 cyl vs. a 6 cyl model?
I'm just stuck between #1863 for a 1973 *up* to May vs. 1867 also for a 1973. Since the model #1867 also covers cars from '74-'77 (other CIS cars, I'm leaning towards that one but would like to be sure) does that make sense? |
Dave,
From reading that the 1847V is used on the 914, 924, and 912E, it looks like the 1847V is a 4 cylinder pertronix. The magnetic lobe that goes over the distributor cam has 4 "magnetic" bumps for the 4 cyl and 6 magnetic bumps for the 6 cyl. I would think that your 73.5 T would use the 1867 based on: 1973 911, E, S, T models from to May of 1973 . . . . . . . . . 1867 (pertronix II - 91867) You could even try the Pertronix II if you wanted to, although I am not sure of the advantages there. |
Make sure the wires are clear of rotating parts and hooked up correctly....one touch the wrong way and POOF....you have a fishing weight.
Where the wires come out of the dizzy body....put a dab of RTV to keep them from moving.... |
just an update for anyone out there... it is the 1867 model
as far as the "new" Pertronix II (91867), I've been told by Pertronix that if you are using a(ny) cd box ignition system, it does not do anything different *whatsoever* they said stick w/ the 1867 b/c the new one has no gains/benefits over that one. |
